The Campus

Students at Incarnate Word take great pride in their campus.  Nestled in the charming AlamoMotherHouse Chapel Heights area of San Antonio, the university sits within rolling hills adorned by live oak and pecan trees as well as a variety of native flowers.  The San Antonio river, which flows through the campus along a tree-shaded channel, has its headwaters nearby, and contributes to the park-like feel of the 100-acre campus.

Alamo Heights is located near downtown San Antonio, and houses some of the oldest homes in the city.  It is home to Brackenridge Park, the San Antonio Zoo, Japanese Tea Gardens, the Witte Museum, and the McNay Art Museum, giving our students plenty of activities and attractions when they need to take a break from studying.  Alamo Heights also boasts a newly restored business district, placing students within walking distance of restaurants, cafe's, bookstores, banks, grocery stores, theatres, and shopping centers.

San Antonio is a city rich in cultural diversity.  Over 80 distinct ethnic groups settled the region, and this diversity is shown in the many city-wide events such as Fiesta, the Texas Folklife Festival, and Night in Old San Antonio.  Downtown San Antonio is home to the Paseo del Rio, or Riverwalk, a winding stone path bordering the San Antonio River, which hosts various restaurants, shops, and night spots.  Nearby is the Alamo, a remnant and reminder of Texas' revolution.  San Antonio also hosts 2 theme parks, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Sea World.  It is also home to several professional sports teams such as the San Antonio Spurs.  San Antonio is the nation's ninth largest city, but it retains it small-town attitude, remaining a city people like to call home.
