Meet UIW Students
Andrew Holzmann
Economics Major
San Antonio, Texas
My
name is John Andrew Holzmann and I am a junior economics and finance
major here at the University of the Incarnate Word. I went to high
school at Central Catholic high School and I must say that it really
prepared me for my college experience.
After being accepted at Incarnate Word I was very apprehensive about what I should expect. My high school career was one filled with ups and downs and teachers telling me that college would be even harder. Nevertheless, during my first semester of college I took eighteen hours, which is the most a full-time student can take. Many of my family members said that it was going to be very hard for me to do well but I ended up on the Dean’s List.
I can directly attribute this to the engagement in all of my classes. They were small and the professors were very welcoming. During my first semester I concentrated on my studies, simply trying to do well in my classes, but during my second semester I decided to rush a fraternity. This turned out to be the best decision of my life. While Greek life isn’t for everyone, it turned out to be just what I needed. It forced me to become involved in a lot of the activities at Incarnate Word and I really started to enjoy my college experience. During high school I was never really involved but when I entered college I knew that I must do something to occupy all my free time. The fraternity has really helped with that part of my life.
Currently I am in the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, a member of the Student Ambassadors, and I am a First Year Mentor. These activities are just a small number of those that you can become apart of if you attend Incarnate Word. Coming to Incarnate Word was one of the best decisions of my life and I hope that you make it your best decision as well.
