Information for Admitted Students

For Fall 2009 and Summer 2009 Semesters

Congratulations on your admission to UIW! We look forward to you joining our community. Following these steps will help ensure your successful enrollment.

1. Pay the Matriculation fee. (New full-time students only)
Freshman students must pay a $200 matriculation fee to reserve a spot in the freshman class. This fee includes the orientation fee. Transfer students are required to pay a $100 matriculation fee to reserve a spot for the fall semester. You may pay by cash, check, money order, or credit card at  https://secure.uiw.edu/admissions/apply_admisfm.html

2. Apply for Financial Assistance.
To be reviewed for eligibility for state, federal and institutional financial aid such as grants, scholarships, loans, or work study, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Contact the Office of Financial Assistance at (210) 829-6008 if you have questions or visit the financial aid website at www.uiw.edu/finaid/

3. Determine if you want to take the challenge exam.
If you are required to take ENGL 0312 or MATH 0318 and feel you should be placed in a higher English or Math course, call the Testing Center at (210)829-3876 to schedule an appointment to take a challenge exam. To determine your course placement, click here.

4. Attend Orientation
Sign up for orientation HERE or call the Office of Admissions at (210) 829-6005 or 1-800-749-WORD for more information. Orientation is mandatory for first-time freshmen and strongly recommended for transfer students.

5. Fall 2009 Pre-Scheduling
All first-time freshmen students are pre-scheduled for courses. Please complete the online questionnaire and you will receive your schedule within two weeks. Click HERE for the web page. Transfer students will register for classes during orientation. Transfer students can also schedule their classes with the University Advising Center. Please call (210) 805-5814 for an appointment.

6. Sign up for On-Campus Housing.
If you’d like to live on campus, you’ll need to submit an application for on-campus housing. Contact Residence Life for an application by calling (210) 829-6034 or 1-800-749-WORD, or apply online at www.uiw.edu/housing/index.htm

7. Laptop
All UIW students are expected to arrive for study at UIW with appropriate laptop or tablet technology. To accomplish this goal, students have the option of purchasing a laptop or tablet computer from UIW or elsewhere. For those who purchase a laptop from UIW, laptop orientations are held during the beginning of the Fall semesters. You can register for the laptop orientation online in late August. 8. BeginUIW
As an incoming freshmen, you can get a jump start on your degree through the BeginUIW program. With BeginUIW, first time students can fulfill a college level English and a bridge math course in four-week summer sessions at a very reduced price. For Spring 2010 Semester
