Javier Lara is from El Paso, TX where he graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. He graduated from Concordia University of Texas in Austin, TX earning a Bachelor of Arts double majoring in Communication and Behavioral Sciences. He recently earned his master’s degree in Human Sciences.

For me, at UIW, the Word is Accessibility! My staff and I travel to the community colleges to visit with students on their campuses and at times convenient to them. UIW staff and faculty are open to meet with prospective student who want to know more about the campus, academic programs and admissions requirements. It is not unusual to be able to come to campus and visit with a counselor in the admissions office or a member of the financial aid office at times that are convenient to you.

For me, at UIW, The WORD is Outgoing! When I was a freshman in college, I was very shy but the friendly environment and small classes made me feel that I was safe and I became a more confident student and person. Being a part of student groups like the Logos (UIW’s student newspaper) gave the opportunity to grow and interact with many people from the UIW community. My high school teachers would never guess that I would enjoy speaking in front of people and I owe a lot of my personal growth to Incarnate Word.

For me, at UIW, The WORD is Opportunity! As a student at UIW, I had the opportunity to get a degree and participate in athletics, work on campus, and be a part of several organizations!
