The purpose of an orientation is:
- To introduce you to the University of the Incarnate Word and the Adult Degree Completion Program
- To provide you with expectations of the University.
- Introduce you to campus services available to nontraditional students.
- To provide information on applying for financial aid, registering for classes, and generally adjusting to life as a college student.
- To provide you with other helpful tips to minimize the obstacles and maximize the enjoyment of your higher education experience at UIW.
Information in this orientation comes from the UIW Bulletin and other manuals and/or handbooks. Yet other information is gathered as a result of student experiences we find will be helpful as you begin your journey. This orientation is only a brief guide to get you started. Become familiar with the Bulletin and Handbook because they contain information you will be responsible for knowing.
The UIW Bulletin in effect at the time of your acceptance into the University contains the requirements you will need to fulfill in order to graduate. You do not need to obtain a new Bulletin each year. Although your academic advisor can help you choose courses, you are ultimately responsible for meeting the requirements of your specific degree program under your bulletin. Please address any questions or concerns early in your academic career.
