Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCaP)

The rising cost of textbooks is an issue that all institutions of higher learning try to address. At UIW, we know it is difficult for some students to afford a textbook on top of their tuition payments. Our newest initiative for the Extended Academic Programs is to defray these costs by providing the textbooks for you. When you enroll for an undergraduate class in the ADCaP or Universe Online programs we will include the added benefit of textbooks. This means no out-of-pocket expenses for books*. The free textbook program applies only to students in the undergraduate programs in ADCaP and Universe Online.

How does it work?

After your registration is approved by your academic counselor (usually within 24 hours), and entered into our student system, each student is sent an email through their Cardinal Mail account. This email will show:

NOTE: There will be only one code, per book, per class. Classes that have more than one text book will require we send an email for each book used in the class.

The step by step process to get your books

Steps 1 and 2 are for first time users of e-books. Previous users can proceed to Step 3.

STEP 1 (For first time users of e-books only)

Each student using an e-book must download Adobe Digital Editions and set it up onto their computer. Digital Editions allow the user to use and read thier textbook..

To download Digital Editions, go to http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ and click on LAUNCH. Follow the directions. When prompted to “activate” your application, set up an account with Adobe for easier use of the product. (Activation allows the user to use multiple computers to view their textbook providing Digital Editions is also on the computer.)

STEP 2  (For first time users of e-books only)

You must now register at the Primis textbook site.Go to:

https://ebooks.primisonline.com/eBookPartner/Register.jsp?PARAM_partnerCode=INC

Register and set up a username and password. We are recommending students and faculty use their Cardinal Mail address as the username so it is easy to remember. Click on the REGISTER button and follow the directions to set up your account with the publisher.

Step 3 (for all users of e-books)

Log into the website shown on the email (Same as above). Click NEXT and follow the instructions until you see a list of the classes for the upcoming term.

Click on your class.

The next screen that appears shows the title of the book or books for that class. At the bottom of the page where indicated, type in the code to access and download your textbook. A code can be used only once to download only one book.

After downloading, if you have more than one class or more than one book, you will return to the class list and follow the same steps with the second code given to you.

If you are having trouble downloading an e-book from Primis, try deleting the cache memory from your Internet browser as a first step. If you are still having problems contact the Primis Help Desk at 1-800-962-9342.

What if my course does not have an e-book?

Some courses do not yet have e-books available, so the book will be made available at the UIW Bookstore. If a student wants to go to the UIW bookstore to get their free book they must show a valid driver’s license and proof of registration by taking the email that contains the book title and special access code.

If you want to order your book and have it shipped to you, forward the email sent to you that shows the title and code for the book to 0236mgr@fheg.follett.com. Be sure to include your shipping address when sending the email. Books will be shipped by ground transport.

*Can I get my book printed?

Printing of text books will be the students and facultys responsibility. No student and faculty will be permitted to print their e-books at any ADCaP learning center. We have made arrangements with the UIW Print Shop for the e-books to be printed by them if a student or faculty member desire. The cost is 4 cents per page and it will be hole-punched for a 3-ring binder. See your academic counselor or learning center staff for information on using this benefit.

The free book program is subject to all copyright laws. The distribution of e-books without authorization will result in severe disciplinary actions. Click here to see a brief explanation of these laws.

The free textbook program applies only to students in the undergraduate programs in ADCaP and Universe Online.
