Academic Programs
The following degree programs offered in the School of Extended Studies are chosen for their content rich curriculum and their applicability to today's needs.
The Core Curriculum is an integrated and sequenced course of study, which constitutes 52 - 53 semester hours of a student's degree plan. The Core is a common experience for all University of the Incarnate Word undergraduates and represents a major vehicle for transmitting the mission of the University.
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
This program offers students a broad background in Business Administration, with the possibility of concentrating studies in a specific area of interest, such as Accounting, Banking and Finance, Management, Marketing, Information Systems, and General Business.
Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS)
The Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree allows students who have completed work or an associate's degree from a community college to complete a four-year degree without losing credit for most of their earlier work. The degree plan has been structured to allow a student to broaden the ir transfer work with advanced study in prescribed business related coursework . Students who complete the BAAS degree will be eligible to enroll in graduate programs if they have selected their electives with care.
The Bachelor of Arts in Administration (BA)
The Bachelor of Arts in Administration is designed especially for the transfer student. It contains a professional sequence of business courses that that will provide students the necessary background in administration for entry-level positions. This degree permits the student to customize their plan with the addition of a minor to complement their current job or prepares them for future goals. This degree is also excellent preparation for the MBA, since it requires 8 of the 12 undergraduate courses required for entry into the MBA program. By working with their advisor, a student can use the elective area to take the four extra courses they will need to be admitted to the MBA program.
Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources (BA)
This is a major in Human Resources which includes courses in business. There are no requirements for a minor. The purpose is to prepare students for challenges in the workplace related to managing and developing human resources. This includes those interested in HR careers as well as those who desire to improve their ability to solve problems, improve processes and enhance the effectiveness of people in organizations. In addition to developing competencies in key HR activities (staffing; training & development; performance management; compensation & benefits; legal compliance), the student will develop important skills in critical thinking, problem solving, technology and business communication
Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Development (BA)
The purpose of the major in Organizational Development is to prepare students for challenges related to improving organizational effectiveness and efficiency by increasing the capacity for individuals, groups and organizations to adapt to change. This includes those interested in becoming OD practitioners, as well as those desiring to learn approaches for introducing new methods or practices in the workplace, and in helping organizations solve problems and achieve goals. In addition to building a foundation in business/business management, and developing competencies in key OD activities, the student will develop important skills in critical thinking, problem solving, technology and business communication.
Elementary School Teaching Certification (BA)
This Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies is for students planning a teaching career in elementary schools. (Alamo Heights Center Only)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Designed for students currently holding their RN, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing will provide the education and clinical experience necessary to receive a BSN. (Alamo Heights Center Only)
