Programming for Games

The Programming for Games minor provides students with a hands-on approach to creating the coding backbone for video games. This collection of courses provide project-based, game-engine driven instruction that helps broaden a student's programming skills to include those required in the video game industry.

Students begin with a broad analysis of high-level programming through either ANGD 1313-Game Engines or CIS 2330-Programming Languages I.

Then through a series of sequential courses:

  • ANGD 2371 Game Programming I
  • ANGD 2372 Game Programming II
  • ANGD 3371 Game Programming III
  • ANGD 3372 Game Programming IV
  • MATH 2322 Linear Algebra

Students will create multiple games using lower-level programming languages to create interactivity using industry-standard game engines.

Production Management

The Production Management minor provides students with the skills and hands-on practice to manage production teams in animation, film or video game production. Taught by industry practitioners, this minor includes both theoretical backing, and management practice to effectively prepare students for careers in the entertainment industries.

It includes 18 credits:

  • ANGD 2353 Modeling and Texture Pipeline or ANGD 1312 Hard Surface Modeling
  • ANGD 2355 Animation Pipeline or ANGD 1315 Principles of Animation
  • ANGD 2351 Production Management I
  • ANGD 2352 Production Management II
  • ANGD 3351 Production Management III
  • ANGD 3352 Production Management IV

Broadcasting Minor

The Broadcasting minor provides students with a strong foundation for a successful career in broadcast and broadcast-related fields. Students will study techniques to create news packages as individuals and in groups. This minor provides hands-on interaction with current equipment and techniques in digital video and television production.

Requirements

Students must complete 15 hours. Student must complete the following 9 credit hours:

  • COMM 3381 Digital Film Production
  • COMM 3395 Television Practicum
  • COMM 3353 Broadcast Journalism

In addition, students must complete 6 hours from the following:

  • COMM 1311 Public Speaking
  • COMM 2354 Journalism I
  • COMM 3386 Studio Production
  • COMM 3390 Radio Practicum
  • COMM 3331 Sports Broadcasting

With a minor in Communication, students will gain the skills needed to handle communication responsibilities in a broad range of fields.

Requirements

  • COMM 1301 Introduction to Mass Communication
  • Plus 9 additional hours in Communications
    6 credit hours must be upper division Communication Arts courses

Degree programs can be complemented by this minor through subjects such as marketing and merchandising, sustainability, management and leadership, and fashion and culture.

Fashion Minor

Students must complete 18 hours. Students must meet the class prerequisites to enroll in the upper-division courses.

Student must complete the following 9 credit hours:

  • FADS 1305 Introduction to Fashion
  • FMGT 2341 Textile
  • FMGT 2350 Promo/Strategies/Fashion 1

Plus any 9 credit hours in FMGT or FADS with 6 of those hours in upper-division courses.

Students must meet the class prerequisites to enroll in the upper-division courses.
